English Teaching Assistant Program (ETA)
MEET THE ETAs!
Amber Schaffer was born and raised in Manhattan, Kansas, which is located in the very center of the United States. All her life she wanted to be a teacher, and this dream came true when she graduated college in the spring of 2013. She attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska where she studied elementary education and minored in Spanish-Hispanic Studies. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree through Kansas State University (in Manhattan, Kansas), studying Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on English as a Second Language. Her research interests include the ways English is both taught and learned in the United States compared to other countries, particular those of Ecuador and Brazil. In her free time, Amber enjoys traveling, baking, running, biking, and drinking coffee. Amber absolutely loves meeting new people and is excited to be a part of UNIPAMPA!
My name is Michelle Petersen and I am 23 years old. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, the third largest city in the United States. Growing up, different languages and cultures had always been a great interest of mine. Once I was in high school, I began taking Spanish lessons — and I fell in love with the language. I continued to pursue my interests in languages and cultures beyond high school, and I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from Elmhurst College in 2012, where I majored in Spanish and minored in Secondary Education and English, becoming a high school Spanish and English teacher. In college, I had the opportunity to study and do field work in Madrid, Spain, Guadalajara, Mexico, and, most recently, Cuzco, Peru, where I became TEFL/TESOL certified to teach English as a Foreign Language internationally. In August of 2014, I hope to begin pursuing my Master’s Degree in International Higher Education through Loyola University. Beyond teaching, traveling, and learning new languages, I enjoy doing yoga, being active outdoors, reading, shopping, and going out dancing. I have always dreamed of traveling to Brazil, and I am so thrilled to be a part of UNIPAMPA!
