ABOUT

Dr. Carpes is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Pampa, Brazil. Visiting professor at Universitat de Valencia (Spain) and Technische Universität Chemnitz (Germany). He holds a Ph.D. in Human Movement Sciences from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) with pre and postdoctoral visiting periods at the University of Calgary (Canada) and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium). Carpes is the President-Elect of the ISB, a member of the ISBS diversity, equity, and inclusion committee, and has served as President of the Brazilian Society of Biomechanics in addition to other directory board roles. His research focuses on developing a basic understanding of the production and regulation of movements with studies in humans and other pre-clinical models applying this information to training and rehabilitation. His research covers topics related to the acute effects of physical exercise on neuromuscular and cognitive systems (motor adaptations and cognitive behavior), sports performance (neuromuscular control, kinetics, and kinematics of running, cycling, and jump-landing tasks), and soft tissue injury prevention and rehabilitation (muscle, ligaments, and tendons). Carpes also dedicates itself to the popularization of science (vice-president of The Biomechanics Initiative) and the development of biomechanics in the EDC (fomenting new research groups and societies). He believes promoting an equitable and diverse society can leverage biomechanics research and further develop the field in an upcoming and challenging world. He is also very active in social medias like Youtube with the educational channel “NeuromechTV”, podcast “Biomecast” and X, Instagram and Bluesky under the @felipecarpes.
